Want to spend the day surrounded by award-winning authors, book lovers, and JLW volunteers? Please join us in volunteering with JLW at the 2026 National Book Festival on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Since the National Book Festival began over 25 years ago, more than 7,000 JLW volunteers have provided over 45,000 volunteer hours, totaling more than $1.57 million in in-kind support.

Help us reach our goal of 400 volunteers by signing up for your volunteer shift on the Member Essentials Calendar! We especially need volunteers for the midday and afternoon shifts! All volunteers will receive a membership credit.

• Book Signing Lines: Help us staff book signing lines for Cynthia Erivo, Ann Patchett, Kate McKinnon, Tia Williams, Martin Scorcese, Tayari Jones, Meg Cabot, Patrick Radden Keefe, Chanel Miller, and many others! Check out the full star-studded author line-up HERE.
• Roadmap to Reading: Represent our amazing states and territories and hand out JLW giveaways to excited kids at the Roadmap to Reading area!
• Book Sales Area: Guide guests to purchase their new favorite books in the Politics & Prose book sellers’ area and distribute free C-SPAN tote bags to guests.
• Floater: Don’t care where you work or want to float between areas? Sign up for a floater shift!
